It is safe for women to travel alone in Mexico, they only might attract a bit more attention sometimes by the local men, especially if you are tall and blond ("güera"). For some Mexicans the difference between genders is still an issue, the idea of "machismo" is still alive, but you won´t notice too much of that in cities and tourist areas. Appear self-assured and use common sense.
